Some illustrations have a lot of possibilities. To tell the story the designers wanted to tell I had fun sketching out my ideas in these studies. Each of the sketches were only about 500x750 pixels. I painted the massing/value study above and we ultimately developed the first sketch into this really cool watercolor rendering.
Playfulness is contagious!
Playing with reality and imagination was the essence of the watercolor rendering for this area of the theme park. The motif was a blend of traditional Japanese culture embracing contemporary veins of science, architecture and art. Sprinkled about are shops with treasures to take home and the irresistible smell of the many cuisines of Japan beconing us to recharge ourselves for more fun.
There are exciting kids rides with colorful cars, photo opportunity areas with popular Manga characters. Also included is a ropes course challenge area to give everyone a place to put that excess energy to work.
The creative team at DTJ Design, Inc spearheaded this adventure!
Resort Entrance Guest Experience
This is a watercolor rendering of the Swan Nest option of two designs submitted for the entrance plaza to a resort complex designed by FORREC .
Family fishing Fun
This was a watercolor rendering of a neighborhood planning exercise with the designers at Kimley-Horn. We brought one of the neighborhood ponds to life with a Family Day fishing adventure.
Hong Kong Timecapsule
For this wastercolor rendering illustration the goal of the design team was to recreate Hong Kong of the late 1920s and 1930s. The traditional architecture of the streetscape has shops filled with souvenirs and memorabilia. There's plenty of tastey food and treats to keep everyone going. Color, atmosphere, and authentic character was our goal.
Forrec were the the great design team we collaborated with on this project.
Food Can Be Fun
Ever heard or said "Don't play with your food!" After being here it might seem like a silly thing to say. This watercolor rendering is another of the illustrations created for the family park which I posted about previously. The team's focus was a playful adventure themed around nature, farming, food and conservation.
Game Night
The concept was to use a watercolor rendering to illustrate a pop-up room with fun family board games that were huge. Family and friends could play and challenge each other creating plenty of interesting moments for memories and social media photo ops.
Lazy River and Lasers
This is a concept for an indoor water park with a future/space/fantasy theme. The room is dressed in amazing 3D light projection mapping, dramatic light shows, and state-of-the-art LED screens and the latest slides.
Cool Glide
Night-time ice skating through an enchanted forest with sparkling "light-sprites" that dance when you pass near them.
Who's Watching You?
Oh, we had fun with this project...this how the fish feel when swimming with polar bears!
